Model Construction |
Several people have asked or commented about the tall jungle grass plants that are in some of the photos. They are easy and cheap to build. Here's how.
Visit a store that sells
aquarium supplies and buy a package of plastic Rootscrapers. The cost was about
$3.25 for the package. The ones I bought were manufactured by Living World and came with three trays of
plants.
Each tray contains 20
separate plants.
You will need to clip off three plants, at the tray, for each jungle
grass model. You will also need a washer for each model, I prefer a 7/8"
(22mm) fender washer because the hole is small and holds the plants
securely. You will also need a little clay or plastic wood to act as the
base material and adhesive. And finally, some dark walnut stain to dip
the base in when dry.
Make a little ball of plastic wood putty and put it on the washer. Push the
three plant stems through the wet putty and press the plants in so the stem is
all the way through the washer. The bottom of your assembly should like
the picture to the right.
Let the putty dry completely and then trim off the plant stems with an
X-acto. Dip the plant in the dark walnut stain, make sure the stain covers all
the putty and just a little bit of the plant material. Let dry. The three trays of Rootscrapers will make 20
jungle grass plants that work great. See the Sarah and Snort
picture in the photos section for an example of how they look in reference to a 25mm figure.
