Aery FAQ's
Q: Can you modify the program to... ?
A: NO! Aery is no longer under development. It is
what it is.
Q: Can I use different pieces and types of
wood in my designs than what you've used?
A: Sure! You will need to make a new configuration file
(see file menu items) describing the wood that you wish to
use. (Otherwise the calculations will be inaccurate.)
Q: How can I construct better gliders?
A: See the Tips page.
Q: Can Aery do different airfoils (wing cross
section shapes) ?
A: No. For simplicity, Aery assumes all airfoils are
flat-plates with a zero-lift angle of attack and other consistent
characteristics. The only thing airfoil-related that the user
can adjust is the airfoil lift-curve slope (done through File/Edit
Configuration menus). However, the default value of 5.7 is
really a pretty good one...
Q: Can I have the source code?
A: No.
Q: What sort of equations and methods does
Aery use to analyze the glider's flight stability and performance?
A: See the file "Aery technical paper.pdf"
It's included in the aery.zip file.
Q: Can you use Aery to design a flying wing
glider?
A: No - gliders designed in Aery must have a tail of some
sort. "Collapsing" all of the glider parts on top of
each other to try and mimic a flying wing may cause a program error
and crash.
