100 Holes
100 Holes
Material:  Steel, glass, found objects
Length:  23″ each module 5x5x5″
Comment:  I am interested in calling attention to the mundane, in this case, holes.  A first response might be that a "hole is a place where nothing exists".  However this piece is about substance, not about its absence. Looking at the piece you will see that a hole is defined by what surrounds it.  Without this definition, holes are not distinguishable from the rest of the space that we live in.  There is a special relationship between the material object surrounding the hole and the hole itself.  Almost always the hole adds utility to the object, allows it to function or in some cases defines it purpose.  In some cases the object that defines the hole points to the existence of other holes.  It is this symbiotic relationship between object and hole that I find interesting.

This piece was done for a show whose theme was "10x10 Repetition in Art".
