Salzburg has a rich history dating all the way back to Roman
times (and one day I hope to have time to write about it). However, most tourists know of Salzburg for 1 of 2 reasons.
The first is that it was the where Mozart grew up. Therefore, classical music lovers go to see his birth house, a
recreation of the house he spent his teen years in (an excellent museum!) and to listen to the wonderful performances
that are put on in the city. Salzburg is also known for the sound of music. I wandered the city first then, at my hostel, watched the movie. The movie did a good job with both on location shooting as well as set design. In watching the Sound of Music, I also realized that I knew most of the songs.
As for my impression of Salzburg, I did enjoy the Mozart sites and I got a kick out of seeing that by accident I saw all of the Sound of Music sties. The music that is preformed speaks for itself. However, I think that you should visit Salzburg just for the beauty of the town. You can climb a hill and watch the sun set (or rise) against the fortress with a spectacular alpine mountain in the background. The buildings and shops all have traditional fonts and the churches are beautiful both inside and out. (See the optical illusion for the statue of St. Mary.) Salzburg is also a good place to stay when visiting various lakes
(like Lake Fuschl) close by.
This text is just a place holder. One day, I hope once again to have the time to devote to the descriptions on where I visited on my web pages.
I hope you enjoy the photos. Any comments, please E-mail me, . |
