Seville is one of my favorite cities in Spain. Seville has a refreshing blend of character and sites making it one of the most enjoyable cities that I stayed in. The feeling Seville gives off is hard to describe however, Seville just feels special. Seville gives off a sense of pride and a feel of extravagance. The feeling that Seville has is a feeling that makes you happy to be alive. While I was in the city, sixty thousand football fans may have helped with that feeling.

Sivelle was originally a Moorish city however, there are very few remains of the Moorish occupation. When Sivelle fell to the French Crusaders, the crusaders promptly destroyed the Mosque and used the Mosque's outer walls as a base for the largest, Gothic cathedral in the world. The minaret was promptly turned into the cathedral’s bell tower. The Alacazar was built for the Spanish ruler not the Moorish one, perhaps in a gesture of victory. However, if you look closely enough you see the Moorish influence in these structures. You see their beautiful arches and their love of symmetry. .

Sivelle did not really boom until the age of discovery when Seville became Spain’s gateway to the new world. Sivelle is located near the Portuguese border in the south western part of Spain. From here, ships sailed away to plunder the Americas. This period brought a golden age to Seville and made it a cultural center. Unfortunately, the harbor silted up and the “empire” crumbled. What is left is a classy legacy in the center of the town. With a over sized cathedral, the beautiful Alcazar, the twisty Santa Cruz district, and very friendly people. And for opera fans, the cigar factory from Carmen is still here, though it is now a university.

I hope you enjoy the photos. Any comments, please E-mail me, .
