Ok art types. This might be old news but poking around a local art store I found this material....

"GOLDEN Digital Grounds turn just about any relatively flat surface into an ink-jet printable surface, providing the control and freedom to create textures and surfaces at whatever scale and shape desired."

One interesting example I saw on display was an image printed on clear gel medium.

Laser Print on Veneer

Laser Print on Veneer
Originally uploaded by evanrudemi
Have I told you I work at an art college? Well I do. At the end of the year the students here pretty much vacate the campus and leave tons of creative supplies behind. I scavenge and reclaim these items for my own benefit. Typically it's x-acto knives and metal rulers. There is always two or three cans of spray mount adhesive to be found. On one occasion I found a bag full of high end markers along with five boxes of cigars.

Today I found a few scraps of wood veneer. It was thin enough to remind me of card stock and seemed pretty flexible. So it was time to experiment. Not only did the veneer cut cleanly on my office mates high end paper trimer it also passed through my office Xerox very nicely.

The creative juices are flowing.

With this information in my head I am now pondering how much more I can run through the machine before disaster strikes. Isn't it nice how I use my resources?

Bingo!

I'd like to frame up sets of nine, put a wash over them and then some of my images.

Escape

Escape
Originally uploaded by evanrudemi
I just got this painting back from a show. They declined to use it and went with two other "bird" paintings.

I was curious why. It was a new direction as far as my images go and I was unsure if it was just not well received. I was told they could only take two out of the three paintings submitted and since the other two paintings kind of went together in theme they picked those.

The did state they really enjoyed the piece which was comforting. I was skeptical about the image.

I started working on this back in February but it took a back burner to other projects. It wasn't until earlier this week when I was asked if I had anything to show that I figured I would pull it out and finalize some details. I still dragged my feet.

I didn't have time to take a good picture of it. I'm sure I will have another chance to document it later.
