The Lord's PrayerWe are indeed the children of God. We all have all that God has and are all able in this very moment to express the fullness of God's purpose in our lives. Not only that, but we can all pray as Christ Jesus prayed, and show forth the same blessings as he did in the world around us. It is not a ritual chant or a formalized request. Jesus prefaced his guide to prayer by telling us to remember that our divine Father-Mother knows all already, so prayer is not to inform God or ask for things. Instead, our prayer acknowledges our real relationship. Each time we speak to our divine Father-Mother, we must speak from who we are, the children of the divine purpose. We thereby renew the power of understanding our real wholeness. The progression of statements in this prayer acknowledge the infinity of Good that is within us, and in that understanding we are lead away from the temptations of sin, disease, and death. It is helpful to elaborate the meaning of each line of the prayer for our immediate situation, bringing focus and breadth to our consciousness of this aspect of our relationship with the divine, as illustrated by Mary Baker Eddy in her Spiritual Interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, . Here is an example of how to make the Lord's Prayer your own (click here) We can also pray this prayer without words.
