We made it through the August 25 deluge that flooded roads and homes in the area.  Over two inches of the four plus inch rain storm fell in one hour during bingo.  On Friday we had our Annual Indoor Picnic.  We had a good crowd and, with temperatures nearing 90, everyone was glad it was an indoor picnic.

8/18/2012 - Pirate Baseball Trip - The game was 16 innings long and the Pirates lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks.  In spite of that, it was a great outing.  Thanks to Avonmore's Karen for spearheading this trip that included us and New Kensington.

9/27/2013 - Hours of Operation

The Westmoreland County Commissioners have voted to amend our fiscal contract to reinstate our previous hours of operation.  We will go from the current 32.5 hours to 37.5 hours.  We have been researching new activities and the extended hours of operation should help with scheduling.

Name Change

You may have noticed the name change at the top of this page.  Our Board of Directors have adopted a name change from Senior Center to Adult Activity Center.  As our Director Kathy Mazur said, "The name Adult Activity Center reflects our diverse adult population."  It is a challenge for most centers to find programs that attract and bring in younger seniors who are needed for the sustainability of those centers.

E.V. Sewer Project

7/24/2014 - The sewer project is working on Chambers St. near the railroad tracks.  The Gas Company is still a block or two away.  We are still able to enter the church parking lot from either Kennedy or McKinley Avenues.

7/8/2014 - The gas line work has just entered the far end of our block. Those who need to do so may still park on the street near the Center.

6/29/2014 - McKinley Ave was closed while the contractor was saw cutting the pavement.

6/27/2014 - We have been told that the Gas Companyís Contractor will start the McKinley Ave project on Monday, June 30.  We have not been told where on McKinley they will start or when they will actually start digging. That be followed by the Sewer Line Construction.  We do not know if any of this will require our Centerís closing but it will affect access to the Center.   We expect detours, parking limitations, and some difficulty crossing streets.  We will keep you informed as the construction progresses. The entire project will take nine months to complete.

Volunteer Program

Much of what we do here at the center is accomplished by our members and volunteers. We ask our members and volunteers to help make a difference for everyone at the center. There are opportunities in many areas and programs for people to lend a helping hand. There is no greater reward than the smile on someone's face for helping to make a difference in their life.

If you are interested in volunteering or lending a helping hand, please contact the Supervisor at (724) 568-2692.

5/3/2014 - Trash 'N Treasure Sale

We had to rush our sale to match the town's yard sale.  They had to rush their date because they will soon be digging up the town to install a new sewer system.  Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and generosity of donors, we had a very productive day.

4/11/2014  - Taxes

We again thank the AARP, Trish, and all of her team for providing free income tax

1/6/2014 - Zumba Gold Has Arrived

We had a successful start for our new Zumba Gold Class. There were good reviews from the participants.  Come and give it a try and bring a friend.  Zumba is on Mondays at 9:30 a.m.

12/12/2013 - Special Turkey Dinner

Last year, an anonymous donor(s) provided the $6,000 of additional funding needed to keep our Center open.  This year that same donor treated our members to a catered turkey dinner.  We thank him, her, or them.

It was the second time in a month our dining hall was full.  We would also like to thank Ed Kolakowski who brought his accordion and provided us with live holiday music, as well as Patty, John and Shirley, who decorated the hall and upper room.

11/14/2013 - Members Appreciation Dinner

We were pleased to offer our

members a free spaghetti dinner.  About 70 dinners were served.  The food was donated by Naser Foods and cooked by our volunteers.  A large dessert assortment was supplied my our members.  It was a great evening for our organization.
