Yugoslavia

The Chechen flag

After World War 2, the state of Yugoslavia consisted of several member nations, including Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia and Slovenia. However, after the death of Marshall Tito, who was the man behind the unity of Yugoslavia, uneasiness began to develop within the nations that made up the larger country. The crisis started when Slovenia voted the communist party out of office and declared independence. Croatia followed, which followed in a civil war with Serbia, ended in 1992 by the U.N. However, the real troubles began when Bosnia attempted to separate, causing brutal combat between the Croats, Serbians and the Muslims in the area, with many thousands of casualties suffered by civilians who were directly targeted by opposing armies.
