Art Quality and Care |
In much of my work the gourd shell is stained or painted with translucent color so that the natural shell markings show. After all, Mother Nature started this work long before I did! I've taken great care to insure the quality and durability of my work. Colored design is done with conservation quality pigments. I mix many of my own paints and stains. To enhance and protect the finished work, I seal most gourds' exterior with a durable water-based polyurethane that is water-resistant, non-toxic, and provides a UV filter. Pitchers and other works are waterproofed inside with a non-toxic tung oil. |
*Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Even with a UV filter, the color may fade. *Handle with care! Some gourds are more fragile than others. They may crack or break if dropped. *The gourd bowls I make are water resistant and safe for food. Avoid temperature extremes and prolonged exposure (more than a day) to liquid. The pitchers are safely waterproofed and ready for use. Use gentle soap and a soft cloth to wash and dry by hand. *If you are displaying cut flowers or a plant in your art, it's best to use a cup or bowl as a liner. *Dusting with a soft cloth and a little furniture oil should prolong the finish and keep displayed pieces looking good. |
As with any fine art, your gourd art will require some simple care: |
