AKC Agility Titles

Decorative Alphabet Letter The AKC agility titles shown below are what you will find when visiting web sites which contain a dog involved in agility. In addition to AKC we have these organizations too: AAC - Agility Association of Canada; CKC - Canadian Kennel Club; NADAC - North American Dog Agility Council; UKC - United Kennel Club (USA) and the USDAA - United States Dog Agility Association all of which have different and somewhat similar title designations.

Excellent-Master MX MXJ

MACh: Master Agility Champion (AKC) which is acquired when a dog reaches a minimum of 750 championship points and 20 double qualifying scores obtained from the Excellent B Standard Agility class and the Excellent B Jumpers With Weaves Class. The size or number of entrants in a trail determines the actual points which can be earned.

Each organization has their own rules concerning competition, but all divide groups of dogs according to size and experience, which means there will be winners in each class or game in a trial.

Dogs are measured for height at their shoulder peak (withers). This ensures that where size is an advantage according to a particular course, the advantage is kept to a minimum. Some organizations make a further division according to age.

Agility is a relatively new performance event for dogs which originated in the mid 1980's and nearly exploded in the United States, as AKC handlers began adopting USDAA and NADAC competitions to expand their own agility experience. AKC was the first of these organizations to include their own version of jumpers, which included weave poles sanctioned in the International rules.
