urpose or Mission Statement: Web site authors who have ten or more informational pages about pet stewardship which leave a visitor encouraged to be responsible pet owners, will be honored with our Heatherway Shelties award.

 

Honorees: Each honoree will be proudly displayed on their own page with a screen shot and laudation, with permission of course. The exception is for our three honorees shown below as 2006, which are ADAA, Downhome Harriers and Casey's Celtic Charm, our first three honorees which serve as to what we expect to find in the future.

Participation: Two nominations are required to be submitted which include a fifty word or less laudation (citation) as to why the web site should be considered for our award. The web site creator may submit a nomination for themselves. Please use the form below.

Process: When two or more nominations are received with laudations (citations) the web site is reviewed by myself and at least one of my judges who are husband and my children (David, Melissa, Caroline and Mary-Allison) and their children with supervision by the parent. We believe that having a pet is a family responsibility and duty. My children know that the most beautiful thoughts are felt with the heart, rather than seen through the eyes, and will judge accordingly to determine whether it meets our criteria, which is shown below.

I do not want to be lengthy with my award criteria and wish for this award giving to be fun, but realize that having a criteria is essential for a "serious award."

Phase One

My husband (Denny) will insure that our selections meet the technical aspects of our benchmark (below) which include a nominee meeting their own criteria, copyright, child safe and privacy considerations and an understanding of "modern web design." The phase one or a test is available for this portion of my award criteria at this page, which someone nominating their own web site may wish to consider.

Phase Two

My children and myself will insure that our selections have visual appeal, exemplary content, graphics which compliment the design, overall spatial demonstration and equality to our benchmark.

The aids which I employ are XENU, W3C Link Checker, Cynthia Says, Bobby version 5.3, ARV, FireFox with Tidy Inline, Tidy, HTML Link Validator Pro, Jaws, Lynx, IBM Home Page Reader (HPR) and HiSoftware AccVerify Pro. If for any justification you have blocked or ban use on my aids, temporary use is required.

Answering yes to the five statements below will permit me to start your review. The review will be completed within 15 days from the date of the second nomination.

1. There are 10 or more self-written pages regarding all aspects of pet stewardship with citations along with credit for those parts that are not your own
2. My adherence is evident to generally accepted community norms of decency to all living creatures.
3. I am in full compliance with all memberships contained within my website and have a privacy statement.
4. Design of my website has been done to the best of my ability for similar viewing in all graphic and non graphic browsers to date which is in their final form.
5. The website can be reasonably viewed in all Internet settings and a visitor will find no barrier to teaching and learning.

The five statements shown below would also be answered as yes and shall apply to ALL pages within the website being reviewed.  However items one and two are preferred but discretionary.

1. Alt attributes are present for all graphics and descriptive title attributes are evident for all external links.
2. All internal and external links are viewable, with external links HTML coded as links which open in a new window offsite, or something similar.
3. There is a site map, home page, top of page, and two methods of contacting you, privacy and copyright statement.
4. A consistent method of navigation, theme, color balance, browser friendly fonts, and ease in turning off enhancements like music, flash and so forth is present.
5. The subject's of the website are based on day-to-day experience and or memberships with on and or off-line groups or organizations. An example would be raising rabbits which give factual experiences, not just what has been read in a book.

Considerations other than the above may apply and if so I shall present them to the author. 

If an applicant is found to be deficient in items three, four and five (above) I will give them the opportunity to make corrections. Within three days. Otherwise a thirty day waiting period shall apply until another application is considered.

Phase Two of the award program was changed on January 18, 2007.

Phase Three

A web site which has two or more nominations or one nomination and screen shots of the self tests and meets our criteria is then sent to no more nor less than two of our judges. Who would all be in agreement that the award should be presented. All web sites who receive a nomination will be sent a notification. We expect to complete our process in thirty days and if longer we will let you know when we expect completion.

Phase Three

Notification: Web site owners are then notified that they have been selected by our judges and we request permission to display a screen shot and laudation (citation). When permissions have been received, the honoree will be included in our honoree section.

 

 

Award Graphic: Our Heatherway Shelties Award was created by Denny Lancaster on November 20, 2006 from a picture of Am/Can Ch Duluta Fist Full of Dollars ROM CD TDI CGC August 20, 1991- November 12, 2006 on our TDI Certification. Our grand old man Shetland Sheepdog exceeded our every expectation. The award graphic is 105x125, jpg format, 6.6 KB or 6,726 bytes.

Heather is the name sake of our Heatherway Shelties kennel. She and Chase would be pleased to personally present the award to whose shown in our honorees section, but will certainly wag their tails at the Rainbow Bridge as each producer is honored.
