A responsible dog breeder, which separates these breeders from puppy mills and smaller operators who do not breed to perpetuate and maintain breed standards, all subscribe to rescue, spay and neuter and ethical practices.
As a responsible breeder, Heatherway Shelties Kennel also actively participates in Shetland Sheepdog rescue. I have had upwards of 10 rescue shelties in my home. Others like myself have at our own personal expense had these rescue shelties examined by a veternarian and returned to good health and then through our state or local networks found a home with a responsible owner.
