700 block Broad Street. Erected in 1878 by the Ladies Memorial Association, Augusta's Confederate Monument is unique in that the figure on the top is a private, Berry Benson, and the generals are all on the bottom, with figures representing Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, W.H.T. Walker and Thomas R.R. Cobb. This was one of the first and the most impressive Confederate monuments dedicated in the South. (HD)
