Old Academy of Richmond County

540 Telfair Street (706-722-8454). This Gothic Revival style structure, completed in 1801, originally served as the home of the Academy of Richmond County which was charted in 1783, the oldest chartered school south of Virginia. The Augusta-Richmond County Museum occupied the structure from 1930 until 1996 when construction on a new museum at 6th and Reynolds was completed. (NR)
