Gertrude Herbert
Institute of Art
506 Telfair Street (706-722-5495). This Federal style
house was built in 1818 for Augusta mayor Nicholas Ware. Because of the cost, $40,000, and
unique design, the structure came to be known as "Ware's Folly." It now serves
as the home of the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, a center for art classes and
changing art exhibitions. Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 to 5:00; Saturday 10:00 to 2:00; closed
Sunday. Admission fee. (NR) |
