CREW DATABASE

Since the actions of the Farenholt were really the actions of her crew, the cornerstone of the Project is the creation of a comprehensive crew database.

The core data components of the database are:

  • NAME (Last, First, and Middle)

  • SERVICE NUMBER

  • ENLISTMENT (Date and Place)

  • BRANCH OF SERVICE (USN or USNR)

  • DATE/RATE ABOARD

  • DATE/RATE ASHORE

As each historical document is digitally preserved it is scanned for information pertaining to individual crewmembers.  When specific information on a crewmember is found it is added to the database. Some examples of specific information are:

  • administrative actions

  • awards received

  • injuries/medical treatment

  • schools and training completed

  • transfers

At the completion of the Project, a comprehensive listing of every sailor assigned to the Farenholt will be available.  Specific events, additional historical and biographical material, etc. will also be included in the database.

The Crew Database will eventually be made available via the internet.
