Highland Raceway

(featured in Model Car Racing #7 issue)

I received my classic Scalextric set as a birthday present from my sister in 2000.  Growing up she remembered I use to have a slot car track in our basement and she thought I might like to have one again.  Boy was that an understatement!  My friend John Delvalle and I put this track up in my basement and started racing and landscaping.   Every Friday night, John would come on by and we would race for hours and then do a little landscaping.  Then I heard of the Rad-Trax slot car track contest early in 2002 and we worked diligently for a month to submit pictures to the contest.  It was (notice the past-tense) 36 feet long using individual Scalextric power packs for each lane.  Lanes were reversible and the controllers were Parma 45 Ohm.  It became one of the circuit tracks in our WSSCA slot car club.    The best pictures were taken by Bob Schleicher of Model Car Racing Magazine and are shown in Issue #7.  We had made some improvements to the landscaping for the magazine shoot and his magazine has those updated pictures.  Even I don't have those pics.  The track was disassebled in early 2003 so the new wooden track could be built.
