Trafford Beautification Club OutlineI. IntroductionA. The Trafford Beautification Club is a volunteer organization that was formed after the TECDC survey of July 2001 of Trafford residents and business owners. The survey data shows gardening and beautification to be one of many worthwhile projects for the community. B. TBC goals are to beautify public areas of Trafford and to be a source of gardening information for the community. C. Completed and ongoing projects to date include the following: 1. Spring 2002 and 2003 fundraisers 2. Route 993W Phase I /and Phase II Welcome to Trafford Garden 3. BY rock garden and monument beds maintained 4. Westmoreland Park expansion of flower bed 5. Gazebo on Edgewood Avenue newly landscaped and war memorial beds maintained. 6. Police Station Wall planted with annuals 7. Post Office flower garden- ongoing cooperative project with employees 8. Fall 2002 and 2003 bulb fundraisers 9. PTARC /Penn State Master Gardener classes offered to the community in 2003 10. Knotweed removal from BY park with involvement from the Boy Scouts in 2003 11. Compiling a scrapbook of the clubs activities. 12. Municipal Garage landscaping to include large quantities of annuals in 2004. II. Purpose of the OrganizationA. The purpose of the TBC is to improve the image of Trafford through noticeable creations of public gardens. Volunteer board members, along with community volunteer participation, will work to enhance the visual impact of public areas to possibly encourage new business and residential growth. III. Important IssuesA. Volunteers: 1. Goal is to increase the number of volunteers for expanding projects. Include residents of the nearby garden location to insure the survival of that garden site. Continue to co-operate with organizations like the Lions, Leo’s, and Scouts. Offer community service hours to teens for school credit. Also, to include more volunteers for fundraising activities. B. Fundraising: 1. Establish the TBC as a non-profit organization. a. Spring flower sale to include hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, and shrubs. b. Work with the TECDC and conservation organizations to access available grants. c. Fall or Holiday fundraiser IV. ConclusionsA. This briefly outlines the important issues and projects facing the TBC. Long term planning may include addressing the issues of beautification of vacant lots on Cavitt and Brinton Ave., the new bridge design to include green areas, and other projects and partnerships that can expand the viability of the TBC.
