1983 Imperial in Glacier Blue Clear Coat Metallic

Picture

Here is my 1983 Imperial.

It is the first new car I bought. I bought this car from the dealer's stock, since production had already ended. It was the color that I wanted, so I was lucky in that respect.

Chrysler built these cars from 1981 to 1983 inclusive. It was derived from the Cordoba / Mirada. The original prototype was created by a contract design company that converted a Dodge Mirada. (There was an article, published several months ago  in a car magazine, about this company - they also built the original Prowler prototype . - But I digress...)

Production in 1983 was 1427 units, which make this a very rare car. The total production, over the three year period, was 10,981 units.

The Imperial were built with very few extra-cost options. This is not to say they were all the same, since the buyer had a choice of stereo systems, wheels, and interior materials. One of the extra costs options was a factory moonroof, which my car does not have.

The engine is a fuel injected 318 V8 (5.2 litres). This car used a one-of-a-kind electronically controlled, continuous fuel injection system. Most systems in use today use computer control to spray fuel into the intake manifold, either at the throttle body, or at the intake ports. These system actually deliver a number of tiny bursts of fuel, The timing of the bursts controls the air/fuel ratio. The Imperial uses a variable speed pump to spray a continuous stream of fuel into the throttle body assembly.
