As you can see, if you’ve been out to the club, Field 1
has a new high house. Besides looking a whole lot better, it has 3½ times the
floor storage area, a Fort Knox-sized foundation (so it won’t sway back and
forth with the ground freeze) and it has exponentially safer access to the
thrower.
The following
people deserve recognition and our thanks for their part in the construction:
Jesse
Harrington, Jr – Couldn’t have done it without him! The Man!
Joe Gallaher – Came out as
a non-member to build the structure!
Jim Fedrigo – Came out as
a non-member and poured the slab and finish concrete!
Paul Rimer – Planning committee and lots of finishing
touches and labor.
Philip Hinojosa – Lots of labor.
Frank Pizzini – Initial construction plans.
Steve Matney – Lots of labor.
Keith Toro – Planning committee and labor.
Dave Pratt – Paint and setting the machine.
John Truitt – Planning and labor.
Mark Birch – Wiring & electrical work.
Paco Birch – Wiring & electrical help.
Matt Matney – Digging & Clean-up
There are
several others that lent a hand here and there . . . thank you all!
Now we start Phase
Two . . . Field 1 low house! The long range goal is to rebuild all
of the old concrete panel houses, but we have a $3000.00 grant from the National
Skeet Shooting Association hinging on the completion of Field 1. The
catch is that we have to complete the project and hold two registered shoots on
the field before we get the grant money. If we can get the funds together,
we should be able to complete the low house by the end of November or first week
of December. This would allow us to
have two Mini-Shoots in January and satisfy the grant requirement. We need immediate funding to complete Field 1.
There are only
three places the funds will come from: 1) Special Events, 2) Donations and 3)
Membership Renewals. We know that many of you have donated money already, but
please realize that, at $3500 per house, we still need at
least $7500 to fund the rest of the project. All this at a time when
shooting participation is at a new low and the cost of shooting is at a new
high! But, we can and will get this done. And what a difference it will
make in appearance and function of the club!
So, what are we
asking of you, our members?
1)Renew your membership as soon as possible.
2)Volunteer for construction or ancillary help as much as you can.
3)Participate in as many club functions and special events as you can make.
4)Donate money or materials.
5)Shoot and eat more!
Larry Dumouchelle helped erect the skeet houses in the
1960’s (far right in below-left picture) and has witnessed the replacement of
those skeet houses on field 1!
Thanks for your help
in changing the face of Wayne County Sportsman’s Club!
