AHS vs. Marriotts Ridge

faceoffAtholton High School's girls JV lacrosse team played the Marriotts Ridge Mustangs in an away game on April 18th, 2008, with the Raiders wearing their black uniforms. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead, and then the two teams traded goals for the rest of the half. Mary scored a goal for the third straight game. At half time, the Atholoton fans decided that they were tired of staring into the Sun to watch the game, and moved to the visitors' stands on the other side of the field. (I don't know why Marriotts Ridge does not follow the usual convention of giving the visitors the worse side of the field.) This also made taking photos much easier. Some of the faceoffs were strange with the Atholton player facing in the normal direction, but her opponent facing in the same direction (right photo).

final scoreThe second half started as a continuation of the first, and things looked bleak until Bridgette scored to get the girls to within 8 - 6 with about 10 minutes left. Another goal by Bridgette, and
2 goals by Gianna tied the game at 9 to 9 with less than a minute to play. After the AHS goalie Joni made a key save, Bridgette carried the ball most of the length of the field, and Allie put it in the net with 3 seconds left for the game winner. The final score was 10 - 9 (right photo).
