Outside our living room window is a camellia bush. For as long
as we've been here, a robin has set up shop there and raised a brood. 2003
was the first year we got any photos to speak of -- she arrived late in the
season and only laid one clutch. We love our robin, and hope you do too.
Here are the eggs, pre-hatching.
This was taken shortly after hatching.
Feed ME! Feed ME!
Beginning to get little feathers
Mom perched on the neighbor's house with food in her beak
Arriving to feed the babies
This is an action shot of Mom putting food into a baby's mouth. Mmmmmm,
Mom's regurgitated stomach contents.
Mom gives us the hairy eyeball as the kids demand more food.
Usually Mom poofed herself up before snuggling down onto the nest. She's
such a good mom.
I think this is Dad, preparing to bring a tasty insect to his offspring.
Ignore the fact that he's mooning us.
Now with all their feathers, they are almost ready to fledge.
One baby seemed a bit more restless than the others. S/he kept practicing
stretching and flapping.
They liked to line up in the same direction.
After about two weeks the babies started hopping around in the camellia bush.
Baby robins are speckled and don't turn gray with a red breast until they
mature.
A day or two after this shot was taken, the nest was empty. Sniff, sniff.
