This
condemned house demonstrates a profound use of cotton balls. Jay
Lorch wanted to set it aflame, but cooler (Get it? Cooler? Nyuck,
nyuck) heads prevailed. The broken popsicle stick is a good
approximation of wooden boards.
Winner
of the "Most sweet and innocent" award, Alexis
Willihnganz probably also should've received the "Most
delightful use of fake Froot Loops and plastic spider"
award. The red sugar sprinkles in the windows give a sense of
warm light within.
The
fence in the "made with sticks of gum" house was the inspiration for this design motif.
Attaching all those pretzel sticks took a LOT of time. Naturally,
they started falling off shortly thereafter, testament to low
craftsmanship. Winner of the "Highest salt content"
award. Oh, and I made this one.
Evocative
of Picasso's "Guernica," notice the green soldiers in
the foreground who have blown the head off of the gingerbread
woman standing in front of her door. The red frosting symbolizes
the counterpoint of violence and sweetness. Notice also the moat
shark about to eat the blown-off head. Truly a baked masterpiece.
Winner of the "Erica Cleary memorial award for the most
deranged and disturbing" for Molly Schlesinger and Scott
Pullman.
"Gray
Goes A-Courtin'" in this "Best biped"
award-winning creation by Paula Bangela. The earth and stars add
scale, while the alien roof writing adds mystery.
A
charming, sugary red path leads through marshmallows to this
delicious dwelling. The Pepsi and Dr. Pepper product placements
help defray construction costs. Notice the green rooster on the
roof, contributing to the Christmas color scheme. The "Most
caloric" award was presented to Gabe Morgan and Sarah Walker
for this.
This is
the house of the McCaughey family, shortly after the birth of
their septuplets. Notice that because of the vastly increased
childcare duties, they're slightly behind in their housekeeping.
An abundance of cotton is used for the spider webs. Erica Cleary
won the "Most indicative of a Catholic upbringing"
award for this.
Still not enough?
Have you seen any good gingerbread houses
on the net? Let me know and I'll
post a picture here for all to see.
