n Fern Lerwick explores the roots of the traditional music of Northern Europe through the Piobh Mhor (Great Pipes) also Small Pipes, Whistle, Voice, and more.

As a solo piper Fern expresses her love for the Great Bagpipe through her passionate playing of traditional pipe tunes from Scotland, Ireland, France and Spain.

“I love to touch that emotional place within all of us with the ancient voice of Celtic cultures.  I also really like to play for dancers.  Their movements have the bite of fire and the languid flow of water.”

n Fern offers educational presentations about the Great Pipe and the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland.

“Bagpipes are my passion and I love talking about them and the music which they fundamentally influenced.”

Fern is constantly researching the history of the Great Pipe and the culture surrounding it.  She loves to debate the half truths and misconceptions that exist around her favorite instrument.

n Fern has gathered some friends about her that express the same love of the traditional tunes and songs they like to perform for the delight of others and their own enjoyment.

Suzanne Rhees, Ann Mossey, and Maggie McEneny, will be joining Fern in the Reel Spinners for an eclectic mix of dance tunes, Airs and other tunes these ladies have learned at the sessions and ceilidh around the Twin Cities.

n If you have a need or an interest or just a want for ethnic music, Fern would love to help you book just the right sound for your event.
