Great Lakes Chapter Goals
Mission Statement
The Great Lakes Chapter of FEW is an organization committed to developing opportunities for women in traditional and non-traditional Government occupations; helping each other use skills and knowledge to improve our lives, professionally and personally; and serving as a positive influence to the lives of others.
Chapter Goals
Goal # 1: To provide opportunities for our members to network, improve their skills and further their potential.
Obtain command approval and funding for members to attend FEW's Annual National Training Program
Sponsor Lunch & Learn training programs at the Detroit Arsenal
Establish and maintain a Chapter web site
Work in coalition with the local Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) and the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 1658
Provide scholarships for College and FEW National Training Program attendance
Conduct a special fundraiser to support our scholarship fund
Goal # 2: To advance promotion and developmental opportunities for women at the Detroit Arsenal, with a focus on eliminating any actual or perceived "glass ceiling" in the grade structure.
Support the Detroit Arsenal's Special Emphasis Program in working to increase women and minority representation at the executive level
Meet periodically with the local union (AFGE Local 1658), the local EEO Officer, and the Detroit Arsenal leadership to strengthen our relationship and to share the concerns of women in the workforce
Goal # 3: To serve as a legislative resource for members.
Keep up on the status of bills which affect us and get information to members
Establish and maintain contacts with our Federal and State representatives
Make sure our opinions are heard through letter writing campaigns and visits to legislators
Goal # 4: To support our community, with a particular focus on supporting women of all ages in our community.
