AUGUST

On  the 26th of August, our annual picnic with the Cheyenne and Estes clubs was held.  It was a big success.  FFNC president, Larry Slocum, and Cheyenne president, Barbara Guilford gave everyone a short up-date on club activities.

Charlie Crihfield gave his usual splendid performance as cook.

Thank you!

He and Helen donated the entrees as a late celebration of their 50th anniversary which occurred in June 2007.

 Congratulations, Helen & Charlie!

It was a beautiful summer day, with great food, and conversation.

Early in August, after a summer break, our club hosted the South Sydney club from Sidney, Australia.  It was a lot of fun.  Over 80 attended the farewell dinner complete with entertainment from a local square dance group and from our Aussie friends as well.

JUNE

In June we hosted one of our potlucks and spent the evening just visiting.  At our meeting we elected officers for 2008.

MAY

Our May program was presented by Blayne and Deb Chastain.  Blayne, Music Director at Saint Patrick’s Presbyterian, Church in Greeley, stated that “Irish Traditional Music is my passion.”  We heard Blayne play the Irish flute, tin whistle, bodhran and acoustic guitar.  Deb often accompanies him on the Irish drum.  In 2006 Blayne completed a masters degree in performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick.  The couple is active in Celtic music circles along the Front Range and own and operate a web business, Whistle and Drum, to sell and distribute Irish instruments.

APRIL

For the April program Libby James and Hope Cassidy presented a slide show and talk on Mozambique.  They had spent time there getting to know the people and the countryside.

FFNC officers and EDs concluded the board meeting in March and prepared to celebrate, with the membership, the 30th anniversary of the founding of The Friendship Force.

The March program was presented by Dr. Bryan Cooke
on the Wonders of India and was greatly enjoyed by all.

FEBRUARY

Our regularly scheduled meeting in January was cancelled due to inclement weather.   Thus, in February Larry Slocum presided over his first board meeting, Ed Jakubauskas, 2006 president, passed the gavel, and Larry opened his first general meeting.

Larry presented a gift of a set of framed pictures to Ed and Ruth Jakubauskas.  The pictures were painted by children in an orphanage in Moscow.  Cinda Clark led an FFI humanitarian exchange to Russian in 2006 and was given several paintings at that time.

The program following the meeting given by Gwen and Joe Kelly was on Slovenia.  In June of 2006 they were part of an FFI trip to Slovenia led by Laurie Ann Scott to help get a club started in Maribor.  During that time Gwen and Joe delivered a key to the mayor of Maribor from the mayor of Ft. Collins.
