SUNDAY SCHOOL

Education and Training
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him. (Colossians 3:16-17)
Recently I looked up the word “disciple” in the dictionary. It said a disciple is a learner, follower, student, supporter, or devotee. Discipleship training would be anything that we do as a church or an individual to teach someone how to become more like Christ. So, I looked around Forest heights to see how we did this discipleship training. I found a lot of very good teachers in my search.
There was Bob Sauls and Pete Boon who took a vision and turned it into a reality for our children’s church. What a difference it made in the worship experience for our children. They did not stop there; along with other teachers, they also lead our children in worship. I saw Bill Chambers who uses his time and talent to keep our church bus running so that our bus ministry runs smoothly.
Then there was Connie Boatright, Suzie Elkins and company who spend many hours before we arrive and long after we leave to make our special events and Wednesday meals the success that we enjoy. Nancy Sauls, who has such a generous heart, has taken food to almost everyone in this church at one time or another.
I saw Seann and Rebecca Taylor who spend hours planning for our youth, and all those wonderful people who open their homes and their hearts to that ministry. Our Sunday School teachers take the time each week to study and bring us God’s Word each Sunday morning, and our choir that shares their time and talents to bring us worship in song each Sunday.
David Kennedy has spent countless hours making the college room a place that we can all be thankful for, as well as keeping up with all the maintenance needed around the church.
We can’t overlook our Senior Saints who care for one another and pray daily for each other’s needs and the needs of the church.
These are just a few of the unsung heroes serving at Forest Heights. If you want discipleship training, just mentor one or two of these Christians who go about God’s business with a quiet and humble spirit.
