Our "home base"
for the Fisher Reunion weekend will be Howard
County, Maryland. Howard County lies in Central Maryland approximately halfway
between Baltimore and Washington, DC. There are no incorporated cities in
Howard
County although Columbia would be the second largest city in Maryland if it
were incorporated. Howard County is on the extreme eastern edge of the
Maryland Piedmont. (Geologically, Interstate 95, which runs through Howard County,
roughly marks the boundary between the Piedmont and the Maryland coastal plane.)
The American Goldfinch is our official Howard County bird and Queen Anne's Lace
is our county flower.
The ancestral home of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, one of Maryland's signers of the Declaration of Independence, is located not too far from where Kem White lives. Doughoregan Manor is still owned by the Carroll family. It is closed to the public.
The weather in the mid-Atlantic states during August is summery. Normal daytime highs this time of year are about 88 degrees; the normal night time low is about 70 degrees. There is no "dry heat" in Maryland so it can get pretty sticky during the summer. Rain is not uncommon. About the only type of weather you can't expect is cold weather.
