| One of the most enjoyable projects of our Club was the Haunted Barn.
Beginning in October 1982, we used the upstairs of the Sunblest Clubhouse Barn, located along
Allisonville Road. Temporary walls were erected to provide a maze of halls and
rooms for scenes. Teams of members and some spouses designed and "staffed"
each area. There were dungeons, headless people, creepy looking characters,
a bridge across a swamp with real water, lots of dark halls with things that
went boo in the night, and our favorite witch at the entrance, cackling
to welcome all the little visitors. Many hours went into the construction,
but a good time was had by all.
The first year, 253 kids toured our barn in 2 evenings, quite good
considering the population of Fishers at the time. We charged 50 cents
admission. Each year new displays were added and in the third year
over 500 youngsters were "terrified".
After the third year, the barn was no longer available. A suitable new
location could not be found, so the project was dropped.
For those of us that were involved, this remains one of most memorable
things
that our club has done. |
