Golpe

The Golpe technique is used to produce a tapping sound. It is produced by striking the Medio, Anular, and Menique, Medio and Anular or Anular fingers of the right hand on top of the guitar. Which fingers you use for this technique is up to you. The more fingers you use the louder your golpe will be. You are not trying to destroy your guitar but rather attempting to emulate palmas or give the impression of a dancer. The tip of the finger nail or the nail and fleshy part of the finger tip come in contact with the top of the guitar. Be sure your guitar is protected with a golpador (tap plate) before trying this technique.

There are three basic golpes that flamenco guitarists use.

1. Between musical notes using the Anular.

2. With an indice downstroke.

3. With a pulgar downstroke.
