The term parada is also called parado, apagado, and descanso.
All these terms refer to a technique used to "stop the strings".
This is done to give accent to the music being played. The lack of
sound done correctly will add "flavor" to the music. Both the right
and left hands are used in this technique.
The hand to use depends
upon what you are playing. This technique is used in many flamenco
palos, including Sevillanas, Farruca, Rumba and Bulerias. Play a cord
and then practice stopping the strings using first the little finger
of the left hand. Do this several times in quick succession.
Next, use the right hand to stop the sound. Again, do this
several times in quick succession.
Parado
Use this to stop the sound of the strings for effect.
