FLIGHT CAPTAIN’S CORNER.
With our end of October
meeting rapidly approaching, I have to get this bulletin out in a hurry,
so I apologize for not having an Adjutant’s Corner or an update from the
Treasurer. I am happy to report that we had an OUTSTANDING Golf Tourney 2
Oct with a record 117 participants. The wing really came through for us
this year and we were again blessed with a perfect morning for golf. Will
try to include some details on winners, etc in the Nov bulletin. I do,
however, want to take time to thank some very important folks for their
contributions in making this tourney a huge success. Bypass Martin has
run this tournament for the past three years and to say he was a little
surprised by the overwhelming turn out would be an understatement.
However, like a true fighter pilot, he remained flexible and found a way
to work everyone in and still provide towels and golf balls for the entire
lineup. We stood to make about $350 on the tourney which will go into our
awards fund. Again, great job Bypass. Thanks also goes to TJ Cottongim,
Panda Langbehn, and Merc Morris for coming out and helping us with the
sign ins. There were a lot of active duty reps that helped Bypass as well
and they deserve a lot of credit for the great turnout, so thanks goes
to: Overall (and 95th FS) Capt Mike "Mugs" Reilly
-2nd FS &
AMU Capt Dave "Ripper" Anderson
-43rd FS &
AMU Capt Greg "Jinx" Preisser
-53rd WEG
1LT Nate Harris
-325th OSS
Capt Jackson "Boz" Whiting
-325 ACS
Capt Michael "Sensei" Kidd
Again, it was one of our largest ever tournaments
and it was a tremendous success. Thanks to those who participated and
thanks to our team that made it all happen…I realize that it is election
time again and this year we will need to elect a new Provost Marshal.
Since Bones McCoy just accepted the Vice Flight Captain position, we will
not vote on his position this year. However, Panda Langbehn has indicated
that he is not running for reelection for this term. Panda has done a
great job as the Provost Marshal for the past four years. Besides leading
our monthly toasts, he has played an integral part in raising funds to
support our awards and scholarship programs. In short, he has done a
great job and will be sorely missed. I plan to take nominations at the
Oct meeting and we will vote on a new Provost Marshal in November. If you
have any interest in serving the Flight as Provost Marshal, please let me
know….Don’t forget the annual Veteran’s Day parade which will be held on
Wednesday, 11 November 2009. We will tentatively plan to meet at the
Martin Theater at 0915 for a 0930 parade start. Don’t forget to wear your
green blazers and golf hats….Our October meeting will be hosted by Lt Col
Trapper France, 43rd FS Commander, and the members of the 43rd
Fighter Squadron. The meeting will be held at the 43rd lounge
and will begin with “Roll call” followed by what I hope will be many great
war stories and a BBQ dinner catered by the Heritage Club. I am counting
on all of you to prepare a good story and bring it to the meeting. This
meeting is not only a lot of fun, but a great chance for us to connect
with our active duty fighter pilots and recruit them for membership into
our Order. Thanks to Trapper for stepping up and volunteering to host us
for this year’s meeting….Guess that is about all I have for now. Look
forward to seeing you at the Oct 29 meeting.
