Flight 89 Bulletin No. 09- 11

December 2009

Our next formal meeting will be the annual Christmas Dinner scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Heritage Club.   Please note that the times for this event are later than our normal meeting times.  We will plan to gather for preflight, war stories, and attitude adjustment in the Checkers Lounge at 1800 hours with dinner served at 1900 hours in the Bayview Dining Room.   This gathering of Daedalians is open to wives, widows of our departed former Pelican Flight members, girlfriends, significant others, etc.  The dress for the evening is Sunday attire or holiday wear.  Green jackets are always welcome.  It should be a great evening and I hope to see you all there.

CHECK-IN PROCEDURES .

Please continue using your credit cards as it helps us with the paper trail at the meeting.  The price for dinner will be $16.00 for club members and $19.00 for non-members.

RESERVATIONS: Once you receive e-mail notification of the Flight Bulletin’s posting on the Pelican Flight WEB site, you may contact your Element Lead and notify him of your intentions to either attend or not attend the meeting.  The Element Leader will call you if: a) You do not have an e-mail address, or b) you have not responded to the notification e-mail.  Again, for this system to work, we will need negative responses.  For active duty members assigned to 1st AF, SEADS, WEG, OPS GP, and the fighter squadrons, please contact by phone or e-mail Ms. Barbara Heckerson, 283-3254.  For all members, reservations need to be submitted NLT 1700 Monday, 30 November.  Element leaders should furnish a list of all attendees by name to Ed Waddy NLT 2000 Monday, 30 November. DON’T WAIT.  MAKE YOUR RESPONSE TODAY!!!  For members who live outside element areas, contact Ed Waddy for reservations. As always, if an unexpected conflict arises and you can’t make the meeting, please call Ed Waddy (872-0394) and cancel ahead of time.  If it is a last minute cancellation, please call the Officer’s Club. If you make a reservation and do not cancel with the O’club or me, you will be charged for the dinner.

Del Linge and Merc Morris volunteered as the standard bearers for this year’s Veteran’s Day Parade

FLIGHT CAPTAIN’S CORNER.

Hurricane’s in November?? Well, we survived the Hurricane or TS Ida, or whatever it was called and it stayed dry enough for us to march, at least some people call it that, in the annual Panama City Veteran’s Day parade.  Thanks to the 20 or so who braved the chill and winds to help us pay homage to Veteran’s Day and a special thanks to Del Linge and Merc Morris who served as standard bearers this year.  In addition, thanks to Bob Myers who led our “precision marching group” down Harrison Ave (nice job Bob) and to Gene McCormick for carrying the American Flag…I also need to thank Lt Col Trapper France and the American HORnets for serving as our host for the Oct meeting down at the 43rd FS.  It was a wonderful evening full of war stories and camaraderie and a perfect time to take our meeting to the flight line for the active duty guys.  Thanks as always to Del and Merc for signing everyone

Don Joyner shares a light hearted moment with the group prior to step off for the parade.

in and thanks again to the club for a great BBQ.  I hope to continue this tradition and build on the relationship that we have with the active duty pilots at Tyndall…. Congratulations to our new Provost Marshal, Jef “Riceball” Patton.  Riceball was elected in a landslide victory to replace Craig “Panda” Langbehn.  Riceball has been an active member of the flight and we look forward to having him join the Flight Officer ranks.  Unfortunately, that means that Panda no longer will serve as Provost Marshal after Dec.  Panda has done a great job serving as Provost Marshal for the past two terms and we are going to miss his efforts in raising money for the awards fund.  So, a fond farewell to Panda and a welcome aboard to Riceball…Not a lot of news to pass along.  December is our annual Christmas dinner for spouses, significant others, etc and I am hoping for another great turnout.  George Peacock tells me that our scholarship recipient from Florida State will be in attendance and it will be our first chance to meet him.  As always, we look forward to a great dinner from the Heritage Club and an overall fantastic evening…We have already begun stepping up the pace for 2010.  I hope to have a few more Board meetings so we can provide a year full of great speakers and outstanding meetings.  I am looking for a few guest speakers for 2010, so if you have any ideas, please let me know and I will try to get them on the schedule…As we approach the holidays (seems too early to be saying that already), I would once again like to thank everyone for their participation and support of our flight and I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukah, and a very prosperous New Year.
