HABL Age Groups

The age groups for Hendricks Avenue Baseball League are as follows, and are in accordance with the age groups defined by Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball. Please note that there are some exceptions to these guidelines. For instance if a player is relatively new to baseball and not as proficient in the skills for his/her age group, then we may recommend he/she ‘plays down’ in the previous age group. On the other hand if a player is much more advanced for his/her age group then we may recommend that he/she ‘plays up’ in the next age group. If we decide that a player should move up or down we will discuss it with the parents and player(s). Any suggestions that we make to move a player up or down will be to provide the best possible experience for the player and his/her family in our opinion.

Special Note: Once a player is turns 13 the option to play down is removed (This is a Babe Ruth mandate). However, we have been granted an exception in the past for girls to play down in the Major Division once they turn 13. We will continue to pursue this kind of exemption from Babe Ruth each year.

• T-Ball - ages 4 thru 6

• Rookie (Instructional) - ages 7 to 8

• Minors (Tadpole) – ages 9 to 10

• Majors (Midget) – ages 11 to 12

• Juniors – ages 13 thru 15

(A players age is determined by how old they are on April 30^th of the current year. For example, if a player has their 10^th birthday before April 30^th then they would be considered league age 10 for the current year. If a player had their 10^th birthday after April 30^th then they would be considered league age 9 for the current year.)
