| Kaiwera
stepped in through the massive doors, and looked into the gloom.
His lightstone didn’t even reach the walls inside, and his ears
popped… he guessed he must be in a massive chamber. When he listened
hard… yes… he could hear a muttered conversation.
“Who’s there?!” he cried into the darkness.
“Hey, what’s that thing?” said one of the voices, a long way off.
“I dunno… Oh! It must be one of those Tohunga things!” said the
second voice.
“Umm… what’s a Tohunga?” said the first voice, now sounding nearer.
“One of those!” screeched the second.
Kaiwera spun round, trying to locate the source of the voices.
“Hey! Who are you?”
“Oh, I’m Waiti and he’s Tetehi. Pleased to meet-”
“Hey! Don’t tell him!” screamed Tetehi.
“Um… sorry, Tetehi…”
“What are you doing here?” asked Kaiwera to the enveloping darkness.
“We are fighting for Makuta! And we have to… umm…” said Tetehi,
his temporal bout of intelligence failing.
“… kill me?” ventured Kaiwera.
“Yeah! I knew that! Come on Waiti, let’s get him!” shouted Tetehi,
zooming into the light from Kaiwera’s torch. Kaiwera reeled in
shock, the two Rama were huge, menacing, smelt slightly and had
a deadly glint in their multifaceted eyes.
“I doubt you to c-could hit me if I was c-chained up!” said Kaiwera
weakly.
“Ooo little Tohunga a bit scared? Little TOHUNGA a bit witty aye?
We’ll see about that…”
The Rama began to advance on Kaiwera.
“Wait! Umm… you must give me time to… prepare! Yes!”
“Wot?” said the Rama in unison.
“Etiquette, if your gonna make it big in the Evil Lord’s henchmen
business, you gotta play by the rules.”
“So we let you get ready to fight us?”
“Yes.”
“OK, you have a minute, and no escaping!”
“Of course.”
Kaiwera stared at the Rama in almost complete disbelief… could
it be possible that anything, anyone, could possibly be that stupid
on the entire of Mata Nui? Well, yes, he guessed, looking at Waiti
who was picking his nose with a giant crusty claw and Tetehi who
was trying to outstare the wall.
“I am ready,” said Kaiwera, who was now armed with his bent dagger,
cloak and disk.
“Now what happens?”
“You don’t know?!”
“We… are inexpe- ineexpee…”
“Inexperienced?”
“I knew that! Yes we are… what you said.”
“Umm… you tell me where the… treasure is.”
“Right… then what?”
“I take the treasure.”
“And then we claw you to death?”
“No.”
“We… slice you to pieces?”
“Nope.”
“Ooo! We gnaw you to bits!”
“No, you let me go.”
“Let you go?! That’s not right! We fight you… grrr… you’ve… tr…”
“Tricked?”
“Yeah! You did that to us! Now I’m mad!” said Waiti.
“Hey, me too! Grrrr!” cried out Tetehi.
Both at once the massive Rahi leapt from the floor towards Kaiwera,
beating their wings to give them extra speed. So much for fooling
them… thought Kaiwera. He ducked, and they slammed into each other.
“Owww!” they both groaned.
Mata Nui… Kaiwera was beginning to feel confident. He aimed his
disk, and flung it at one of Waiti’s infected Rurus. It knocked
one off, then rebounded and hit the Rama in the teeth. Crying
with rage, Waiti flew round in mid air and took after Kaiwera
again. Kaiwera began to run, but fell over his satchel. His dagger
flew into the air, and was snatched away by Waiti.
“Ha! Have your weapon now I do- ARRRRHH!”
There was a clatter, and a lot of blood hit the floor. Kaiwera
looked up to see Waiti screaming in agony, grasping at one of
his claws, which was leaking dark red blood.
“You… may have won this time… Tohunga, but we’ll be back…!”
“Yeah! We will be! I’m gonna kill you for hurting Waiti!” cried
Tetehi.
Kaiwera wanted to point out that it wasn’t actually his fault
Waiti had grasped the blade of his dagger instead of the handle,
but couldn’t as both Rama flew into the darkness once again, cackling
and sobbing.
“Well that was… odd,” said Kaiwera aloud, trying to wipe the grime
off his chest. He gathered his things and walked into the darkness
again. He eventually came to an archway, with strange white angels
on top of it. The room inside was so old… it was crumbling to
pieces. The room was small, dingy and very musty. The air smelt
like it hadn’t been used in thousands of years. Even as he stepped
into the room, a decaying chest collapsed further into itself.
Something caught Kaiwera’s eye… red, something red was inside
of the chest. He walked over to it, blew hard on the remnants
of the chest to reveal… a very dusty Hau mask, covered in scratches
and pits. He picked it up; it held together. This looked like
the thing Vakama wanted. Kaiwera put it in his bag, and set off
back the way he came.
