Notes:

  • I will be using “North”, “South” etc through this walkthrough, so for those of you who don’t know, this is what a compass looks like:

The large letters are the main directions: North, East, South, and West. The smaller letters inbetween are the diagonal directions: North East, South East, South West and North West*. In FotR, north is always up, and south down etc. Got that? A great way of learning the directions is this rhyme – “Never East Shredded Wheat”. There’s nothing wrong with Shredded Wheat, but it’s a great way to learn your compass directions.

  • SC means: Change of scene, in the game this will come about with the map fading to black, and then back, with you in a different place.

* In the real world, as you move around you change your position in relation to the north, the north being the North Pole. That’s how a compass works – it has a magnetic needle in it that points towards the magnetic field at the North Pole. So, because the needle always points north, you can work out which direction your going.

 Part 1 - The Beach

You start off at the beach at level 2, with 2 cure potions and a dagger. As of the moment, the only monsters around are ussal crabs, and they are VERY easy to beat.

Battling notes: You will always get the same exp for each member. i.e. If you defeat an ussal crab with only Kaiwera in your party, he will get 1 exp. If Moana joins, she and Kaiwera get 1 exp each.

Go out of that area you are in, and when you get to the sign, go south. Keep going south and weave through the big stone thingies. After you have passed all this, cross the bridge and go up the stairs.

S.C....

You are now in the Charred Forest of Ta-Wahi. Navigate your way through the dense thick smoke to the Ta-Koro gate.

At this point, no more ussal crabs. Your new enemies are Fikou spiders.

 Part 2 - Ta-Koro

Congratulations...you are now in Ta-Koro, your home! Go to the inn and rest if you want...there's going to be a boss fight soon. (Note: When I say boss fight, I mean fights that CANNOT be avoided if the storyline is to proceed).

Go to the rectangular building to the left of the inn. There are two doors. Go through the one closer to the wall.

S.C....

Go and talk to Turaga Vakama. You will find out you are the 'Chosen of Fire'. Keep talking. You will fight Jala, your boss, as a test.

Turaga Vakama will now tell you to head towards the Fire Temple. Get out of that room and go heal yourself, buy stuff, whatever. Just get ready because your only way of healing yourself at the Fire Temple is with potions or if you level up.

Now let's head towards the Fire temple. First, you need to get out of Ta-Koro.

S.C....

Right, Charred forest...again. Go down (just a few steps), then head west (left). Keep going, until you meet up with...

S.C....

You're still in the Charred Forest. But keep going...up...read the sign post...and go in the door.

S.C....

Part  3 - The Fire Temple

Ok, so you're in the Fire temple now...cool music. The monsters you can meet up with are now...Fikou (3). Note: If the monster's got a number beside it in brackets in this guide, like you just saw, that means the number it appears in. Fikou (3) means that three Fikou are going to battle you at once. Since it’s basically the same as what you battle in the Charred Forest, I’m not going to draw a table here.

First, go RIGHT and then up and hit the switch...then go back down to the fork and go left. Ignore the first 'branch-off', because that's a dead end. Instead, go up, and turn right. Keep going to the end and go down the stairs.

S.C....

Just keep following the corridor...go past the big doors (can't go through yet)...just keep following the path...hit the switch. Now go back to the big doors...hey! They're gone! Well, go down the new corridor, and enter the room with the big chest. Open it, and get the flame sword. This beauty will now appear on the back of Kaiwera.

Go out of that room, and in front of that pillar with the funny gold stuff. Press Enter or Spacebar or whatever your 'use' button is. Ta-Da. Your pathway is now open. Go down the stairs.

S.C....

Go up and hit the switch. But before you go through, I'll warn you, there's going to be another boss fight. Ready? Right, now go through the doors. You will appear in a desert. Now let the game guide you.

Right, after that amusing conversation with the two idiotic excuses for a Nui-Rama, you fight. After you’ve taken care of the two, a door will magically appear. Go through it.

S.C…

Yay! Big chest! Open it! Ta-Da…and you find Tahu’s Hau!!! Now take it to Vakama, like the game says…the game will automatically teleport you to the Charred Forest. From there on, you must fight your way through masses of Fikou (again) to Ta-Koro. So, get yourself there…and we’ll skip directly to where you talk to Vakama.

S.C….

You will automatically go to Vakama and start the conversation once you’ve entered the room. So now you need to find the other Chosen. Good job. You have officially completed Ta-Koro. Well, not quite, since you’ll be back. So go to Tear’s point. Let’s skip the Charred Forest and go directly to the beach.

S.C….

Go down the stairs, and cross the bridge. Go north, north, north, pass the stone thingies, across the big sand plain, and up the stairs. Go east once you’ve reached the top of the stairs. Keep going, right across the bridge, look around…and a cutscene will follow.

S.C….

 Part  4 - Ga-Koro

Yeehaw! Ga-Koro! This place is great…nice music, too. Go around and buy stuff, rest at the inn, whatever. After you’re done shopping, talk to Moana (btw, if you have been smart enough to read through everything in this walkthrough, this is THE Moana that I was talking about *wink* ), who is, like she said, apart from the others, standing at the square.

She tells you to talk to Maku. Do that, and find out about where Turaga Nokama has gone, as well as why. Then go down from the stage and talk to Moana. She’s furious, and demands to go to the water temple as well.

MOANA HAS JOINED YOUR PARTY

Hurrah. Your first Ga-Koronan. She is very intelligent and you will find her very useful for healing your party. She starts off with a short sword and a robe at level 5.

Now, go out of Ga-Koro and head north. Cross the bridge, and leave through the west path.

S.C….

Nice music. Just keep following the path. Sooner or later you’ll meet up with a Nui-Rama.

Go back to that sign post, and head north one step, onto the little ‘piece of land that is jutting out abnormally’. Cutscene J. Now go down the steps.

And after you’ve beaten the infected Maku, go round the big pond, down the east side of the second pond and head south at the fork. Open the chest. This will trigger a cutscene where Moana wears the Kanohi Kaukau and we’ll all know she’s the Chosen of Water. Now you can also travel across water using wooden platforms…this will come in very handy.

Now go back all the way to the fork at the beginning. Take the east tunnel. You will notice the wooden platforms on top of the water. Stepping onto one will now teleport you to another platform directly opposite. Keep doing this to travel all the way to the other side of the tunnel. When there are no more platforms, STOP. DO NOT CONTINUE. Prepare yourself for the toughest fight yet! This will be against a Tarakava, and believe me, it is strong.

After you’re sure you’re ready, go into the cave. A cutscene will follow where Kaiwera says something that makes a lot of sense. Now FIGHT THAT TARAKAVA.

This Tarakava is tough. Keep pressing the fight button but if somebody’s hp falls below 30, use the cure water spell to heal that person. Keep this up and you’ll soon have this monster subdued.

Afterwards, you will meet up with Tehiti and Waiti again. Luckily, they start arguing and you don’t have to fight them. After they stop talking, go south behind the lake and you will meet Nokama.

S.C….

A cutscene will ensue and you will be in Nokama’s hut, where she will explain everything to you. I got goosebumps when I read this.

Now go outside and enjoy the fresh air. Heal yourself and go shopping and whatever. After you’re done with that, go to the jetty and leave for Ta-Koro.

S.C….

Go the way you went before, but just when you are at the gates (you are still in the Charred Forest), turn east. Go up the stairs and into the hut. Talk to the Ta-Koronan and travel to Ko-Wahi.

as an answer. Go up the staircase next to it and…

 Part  7 - Ko-Koro and finding Pirihi

Ta-da! You have made it all the way to Ko-Koro! Now do whatever you do at a town; shop, heal, whatever. Then, when you’re finished, head north, up the stairs, and into Turaga Nuju’s hut. But it’s so big; mansion’s probably a better word.

Go in and talk to Turaga Nuju. Matoro will translate his words. Now do as Nuju says, and talk to those rangers. Or basically every one in town. You should get a name…

When you’ve done that, prepare yourself…you are about to meet the third chosen. The Chosen of Ice.

Head out of Ko-Koro, and down three staircases (including the one connecting Ko-Koro to the world). Now go up those staircases to the northwest that I told you to stay away from. Go up those three staircases and read the sign post. Head west. That’s right. Towards the snow plains.

Now all you need to do is walk around for a few moments.

A cutscene will occur where you meet Pirihi, the ranger that has gone missing. You will learn why he did not return to Ko-Koro. Then they will talk a bit more and…

PIRIHI HAS JOINED YOUR PARTY

Yay. This guy is lvl 7 and starts off with a long sword and some leather armour. After he’s joined, you will be teleported to outside the snow plains.

Go back to Nuju and talk to him. You will learn about the whereabouts of the Ice temple. Now go back outside and up those three northwestern staircases until you see the sign post. Remember I told you to read it? Well, you should know where the Ice temple is. Head north up all those staircases. Just keep heading forward, sometimes up, sometimes down.

Eventually you will reach the summit and arrive at the Ice Temple. Well, what are you waiting for? Go in!

S.C….

Pretty straightforward. Go pass the staircase and hit the switch. And then go down the staircase. Now hit that switch and go back up two levels.

S.C….

When you get back to that fork (which you took the west route), now you can take the east one. Go up the staircases.

S.C….

Continue west, and ignore the ‘branch-off’s. Instead, go all the way to the end and up the staircases. Hit the switch and go back down the staircases.

Now turn south at your first fork (from that staircase you just came down from) and  go onto the wooden platform.

S.C….

Ignore the staircase and continue into the large cave just ahead (to the east). You have a choice of seven ‘branch-offs’. Starting in a clockwise direction from the most north western branch off, your choice should be the fourth one; but before you go through, prepare yourselves. You are about to fight a very strong Muaka. Compared to the Tarakava you fought before, that Tarakava is a sock puppet.

 Part  11 - The Quarry

Follow the path up to the Quarry. Go through a few tunnels and arrive at a dead end. There’s a patch of wall that’s empty, unlike four other patches of walls, where there are masks. Go up to that patch of wall. Talk to it.

S.C….

Go through the new entrance. Continue up to the staircase. Take west on your first fork. Go all the way into the end of the corridor. Go into the most southwestern room and just walk around the big stone block.

S.C….

You’ll slip and find yourself in a room without any exit. You can try the switch, but it won’t work. Instead, ‘talk’ to the northeastern skeleton. Cutscene…Nobody dares to touch the skeleton except for Moana…girl power! Now exit the room with the new door. Go back to the start of the corridor. The doors will have disappeared. Go down the steps.

S.C….

Keep going past all those doors and onto your only route: the staircase. Hit the switch and open the chest. Now go back down the stairs. Enter the room with footprints and check the patch of wall near the footprint. You will meet a Po-Koronan. He is the supposed ‘traitor’.

KIKIA HAS JOINED YOUR PARTY

Whoppee. Let us rejoice J. For a level 10, this guy has HUGE hp. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have anything on him. Go back to the town.

S.C….

Go all the way up to the northern bit of the town. Read the signpost if you want. Then when you’re done, ‘talk’ to the patch of wall that is in the center of the footprints. Go through your new door.

S.C….

You are now moments away before entering the Stone Temple. And if you didn’t know that, you really haven’t been noticing those angels.

Part  12 - The Stone Temple

This bit is really straightforward. But before you go up the stairs, prepare yourselves for a MAJOR battle. Ready? Right, now go up those stairs and talk to the person. After a little chitchat with Mata Nui’s brother, you fight his little pet. A Kane-Ra.

KOHUKE HAS JOINED YOUR PARTY

This chosen starts at level 11. His stats are pretty equal and he’s got nothing equipped.

You will also learn about Nikki’s flight for freedom. After you’re done, head outside and heal yourself, buy stuff, the usual.

 Part  15 - Finding Nikki

This is the only side-quest in this entire epic. And it’s a pretty easy one. Go to the Beach near Ta-Koro. Go to the area that we first started. You’ll find Nikki there. In exchange, Onepu will give you a lift to whichever Koro you’ve been to as long as you ask.

S.C….

You’re in a sort of cave-beach area, similar to the Water Temple. Head north, the only way, and into the room. Read the text.
