Welcome
to the Index to the 1906 township plat maps for Sanilac County, Michigan.
The Standard Atlas of Sanilac County Michigan for 1906 was compiled by Geo. A. Ogle & Co. Very similar to the 1894 Atlas, the name of every Sanilac landowner in 1906 is recorded on a map at the location of his or her property. These plat maps provide a census record of the landowners of Sanilac County in 1906. The Atlas, however, has no general index. After completing an index for the 1894 Atlas I decided to do the same for the 1906 Atlas. This index is the result.
The pattern for this index follows that of the 1894 index almost exactly. As in the 1894 index this one covers only the township maps. The village maps that are also in the book are not indexed. Also, as in the 1894 index, when two sections of a township are numbered the same, the section from the partial township has a suffixed letter. For example, Delaware Township has two sections numbered 6. The one on the east is labeled 6E and the one on the west is just labeled 6.
This index was a little more difficult to compile than the one for 1894, due mainly to less legible penmanship on some of the maps. The user should remember that some errors undoubtedly crept in when I transcribed the names. (I am reminded of the number of times I had to distinguish between the abbreviations Jas. and Jos. Handwritten, the "a" and "o" were very similar.) In spite of the difficult penmanship I believe the index is basically accurate. When a letter or name was definitely unreadable I put a question mark (?) in its place. If you notice any errors or would like to make suggestions please email me at fsbjab@msn.com .
I hope this index and the 1894 index will be a benefit to you and to any others who search for their ancestors in Sanilac County.
