Fellowship of Christian Bass Anglers of North Georgia and Southeast Tennessee - "It's About More Than Just Fishing"

Columns and Conversations from Club Members

3/7/2009 - Patrick McBride

It was a beautiful day on the river today.  As I fished this morning I watched several chipmunks run and play and a big buck soak up some sun on the bank near me, I was reminded of this great planet that God created for us to enjoy.  I also thought back to what has happened with our club this year and it got me to thinking.  Somehow, I kept going back to "WWJD?", the expression made popular by the song, the book, and the bracelets and other apparel that many adorned as part of a trend.  Then I ran through my mind what had happened since the end of January and ran them all through the same set of criteria; What Would Jesus have Done in these scenarios?  I spent several hours fishing, catching a few, as my mind raced through this self-imposed quiz.  When I was finished, I could say without apology, that in everything that has happened, that I personally believe that the leaders and founder of this club that stepped forward have followed Biblical teachings and principles in handling what has happened.

Make no mistake, I love to fish, I love to compete, and I love to win.  Being blessed enough to win a couple of AOY's has done little to quench the desire to win every time I fish.  I am blessed to have also matured to the point that I understand that at the end of the day, the seeds we plant and sow in this ministry go much further than any of those previously mentioned things.

In Christ,

Patrick
