The Mystic is truly an urban river, but a fantastic
variety of birds, fish, animals, and vegetation live here
too. The river's calm water and grassy banks provide
important habitat for these creatures. Like many other
bodies of water, the Mystic has its share of alien invasive
species that threaten the food supply and living space of
indigenous species. The Friends of the Mystic River want to
safeguard habitats for native species. We are reviewing a
draft of the Metropolitan District Commission's Mystic River
Shoreline Management Plan.

gray squirrel to find out which species you can find living
in and around the Mystic.
