About Us...

Regnbuekats (Norwegian for Rainbow cats) was established in 1990 when my husband and I bought our first Norwegian Forest Cat, Nissekatt's Regnbue Kriger.  "Gnar", as we affectionately called him, was one of those "one of a kind" pets. From the time Gnar entered our home, we became irretrievably enamored with the breed. For the past fifteen years, we have remained a small cattery & hobby breeders, dedicated to the preservation of this wonderful breed. We work with both domestic and imported lines.

We are actively involved with the NFC breeding community, and we support the sharing of information among breeders concerning any potential health issues that may arise. We pay close attention to pedigrees and strive for unrelated matings, while maintaining the traits that make a "wegie" a "wegie", including the lovely, expressive almond-shaped eyes and the sweet, intelligent and sometimes feisty, temperament.

Our cats are members of the family and have run of the house. They are not kept in cages except for limited periods of time when it is necessary to isolate, such as a new cat, a female in heat, etc. Kittens are born and kept in our bedroom with their mom until they have had at least their first set of shots and are ready to wean, usually around eight weeks. They are handled several times daily, and are well socialized. All of our cats and kittens are sold under contract, with a written health guarantee. We currently screen for HCM.

We show in TICA (The International Cat Association), and in CFA (Cat Fanciers Association), primarily in the MidAtlantic & Northeast regions of the United States. I am a member of TICA, CFA, and NFCFA (Norwegian Forest Cat Fanciers Association) and a former Editor of NFCFA's quarterly publication, "The Skogkatt".

Our cats and kittens have been featured in several issues of Cats USA Annual, Cat Fancy Magazine, and various other publications. Their beauty and charisma make them a natural in front of the camera. Please be sure to check out our "Gallery" page while visiting our site!

Thanks so much for visiting,

Donna
