| A Covenant Partner is an essential aspect of the
confirmation process
at First Presbyterian Church, Birmingham. We began the program at least
14 years ago. We believe that confirmation is the beginning of a faith
journey that will last a lifetime. A Covenant Partner is proof of that
- an adult who is also on a faith journey. We hope that Covenant Partners will meet with their Confirmand at least once a month, perhaps to attend a mission activity or a Saturday evening worship service, go to a sporting event, or just go out for dessert. Talk about whatever is comfortable. The relationship is the most important thing. In our Sunday morning confirmation classes we will be discussing aspects of faith as a continuation of the learning that our children have experienced in their years of church school attendance. As we move through the Confirmation year, we hope to help and guide our youth into an understanding of the many aspects of their faith. We will keep partners informed about what we are talking about - there are lots of discussion starters, and we hope that you are able to talk about these things with your partner. For some of our confirmands, church school and church attendance has not been a regular part of their lives. If your child or covenant partner is one of those, you may need to help fill in some blanks that we won't have time to cover in our Sunday morning classes. Please remember that it's perfectly OK to say "I don't know" or "I wonder about that too, sometimes".
