BRANCH 29 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Shipmates &
Friends
I would like to thank
you for your support in the last election and I shall try and do my best for
the Branch and Club. I would like to
extend a personal thanks to S/M Tom Watkins for the service he has provided to
the Branch and Club over the past several years. Veterans Groups such as ours has to have
volunteers like him to succeed.
I would like to
congratulate the new officers of the Ladies Auxiliary and look forward to
working together.
I would like to
recognize the many volunteers from FRA Branch 29 that are donating their time
and effort to support the surrounding community. If I omit someone I apologize and would ask
for your input on what you are volunteering for: Naval Hospital: Jerry Irvine
and Gene Hanson; USS Turner Joy: Jerry Irvine; West Hills Elementary School
Tutor: Phil McGaughey; Patriotism: Bob Urie; Vietnam Wall Memorial: Tiny Bryson.
One of my main goals
over the next year is recruiting. Even
though our Branch membership is stable, the overall FRA National membership is
decreasing and needs to increase. To
accomplish this I will need support and volunteers to help with manning booths
we set up at NBK
I am glad to report

WEAR YOUR MEDALS
VETERANS PRIDE INITIATIVE UPDATE 01: Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson is urging all veterans across the country to pin on their military medals this Independence Day, July 4, to show their patriotism and pride in their service. Nicholson said, "We want to inspire the American people to recognize and honor the military service of their fellow citizens, and to engender a greater sense of pride and satisfaction on the part of the veterans for what they did for our country. This initiative shines a bright light on millions of our fellow citizens who answered the needs of our nation both in peace and in war." Nicholson encourages the 24 million living Americans who have served in the armed forces to display their medals on the Fourth of July by pinning them on their civilian clothing over their left breast. Nicholson first urged veterans to wear their military decorations last Veterans Day under a program called "Veterans Pride Initiative." The Initiative asks veterans to wear their medals on Independence Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and when attending other patriotic events. Major U.S. veterans' organizations have endorsed the initiative. For additional information about the initiative refer to http://www.va.gov/veteranspride/, where veterans can also learn how to replace lost medals or confirm the decorations to which they are entitled. WELCOME NEW FRA MEMBERS
The following new members have either joined the FRA and Branch 29 or transferred in from other Branches, the Member-at-Large rolls, or been reinstated. You are welcome at the Branch Meetings and we always need input from the new members.
The Board of Directors meeting is held the 1st Tuesday each month at 1800. The General Meeting is held the 2nd Tuesday at 1800. You are welcome at either meeting and encouraged to attend and start getting involved with the Branch. Besides handling the Branch business, we also have a raffle during the General Meeting and a drawing from the Membership List. If your name is drawn and you are PRESENT you could win $100+, so it can even pay to attend the meetings. After the General Meeting we normally have light snacks for memberships of both the Branch and Auxiliary.
