Family Room Fireplace Surround
The fireplace in our family room was the basic red brick - floor to ceiling and 3 feet on each side - and dominated the room. In addition, the previous owners had put drywall up so that the edges were exposed OVER the brick!
I put more drywall up to reduce the area of the fireplace, covered the edges with mock pillars, used frame-and-panel construction to reduce and unify the mantel and pillars, then used 2" x 2" tile to outline the firebox with 12" x 12" slate tile with white oak trim for the hearth.
