Everything is all tied up at Thunder Valley!

Motocross and Motocross Lites classes decided by tiebreakers

Lakewood, CO July22nd, 2007 - A three way tie in the Motocross Class and a two way tie in the Lites Class were decided by the second moto place tiebreaker Sunday at the Thunder Valley Motocross Track. Clear skies, 98 degree temperatures, and an enthusiastic Colorado motocross crowed greeted round 7 of the AMA National Motocross Championship series as it visited Colorado.

Motocross Class - Kawasaki mounted James Stewart went from taking an ambulance ride last week to winning the overall victory this week. After a strong showing for the first 15 minutes of the first moto Stewart faded and ended up with a fourth. Stewart's second moto went much better with him being able to put his KX450F into the second slot at the end of the moto, good enough for the overall victory. Second overall went to KTM's Mike Allesi with moto finishes of 3-3. Colorado Native Andrew Short took his Honda CRF450R to the final podium spot via 2-4 finishes. All three riders were tied on points after the two races and the second moto tiebreaker was used to determine the overall finishing order. The rider with the best finish in the second moto gets the advantage so Stewarts second was good enough to take the overall honors. Allesi's third put him ahead of Andrew Short who rounded out the podium. First moto winner Davi Millsaps fell victim to a bad fuel gremlin in the second moto, falling to 8th which gave him a fourth overall for the day on his Honda CRF450R. Second moto winner Tim Ferry took fifth overall with moto finishes of 11-1.

Stewart now leads the series championship with Ricky Carmichael in second and Tim Ferry in third.

Motocross Lites Class - The Lites class was once again a battle between Kawasaki stars Ryan Villopoto and Ben Townley, who came into the event tied in the points standings. Villopoto won moto one as Townley fell early and worked his way back up into second by the end of the moto. In mototwo Townley was second to Villopoto in the early going before Villopoto fell over in a turn and handed the lead to Townley. Villopoto crashed in the same turn the next lap, and that was all Townley needed, as he rode off to an easy victory and Villopoto settled for second. Third overall went to Honda's Josh Grant with 3-4 moto finishes. Jason Lawrence followed in fourth on his Yamaha YZ250F placing 7th in the first moto and 3rd in the final moto. Fifth overall went to Brett Metcalfe on a Honda CRF250R with moto tallies of 5-5.

Townley and Villapoto came into and left Colorado tied for the series points lead.
