How she managed the trip, I'll never know. At 14 and 17, her children were more concerned with enjoying the trip on the Queen Mary, I'm sorry to say. She needed transfusions, and as I'm Rh negative, as she was, I became a donor. I remember it well the first time - side by side on gurneys with a doctor between us. There were about 8-10 people in the room. The doctor drew blood from me in a 20cc syringe and injected the needle in mother's arm. The syringe was then passed on, someone counting out loud (eventually to 25), the syringes were sloshed in something, then something else, and returned to the doctor to take and give more blood. I lay there trying to figure out what each one was doing - with nothing but my ears (no knowledge) to help. Mother lay there worrying about me. Luckily, Brian missed inheriting the telangiestasia."

Mary Megaw was born on 5 January 1887 in Clara, Clough, Co. Down, Ireland. She was the daughter of Robert Megaw and Mary Mcneill. He eventually tired of the politics and went back to teaching drama literature. After he retired he began writing poetry and garnered quite a name for himself. He died from complication of Parkinson's.
