The first session includes an assessment, discussion of repertoire and your areas of interest. If you have studied before, bring something to play.
All students will receive a calendar for the semester. Lessons are normally 30 minutes, once a week, at your scheduled time. For beginners, I recommend 30-minute lessons. Longer lessons for intermediate and advanced players are also available.
Please call to discuss rates.
Students pay by the month, not by the lesson. In a ÒlongÓ month, you may receive 5 lessons, in a ÒshortÓ month, only 3. Payment is due by the first lesson of the month. If for some reason you don't make it to the first scheduled lesson of the month you may mail your full month's payment to my home by the 10th of the month.
Once you have scheduled a lesson time, I reserve that time for you, every week. If I miss a lesson for any reason, I will make the lesson up, or give you a credit. Each student is allowed two excused absences per semester, if you provide 24 hours notice. Those lessons can be made up. If you miss a lesson and do not provide 24 hours notice, or if you have already used up the excused absences, you forfeit the lesson.
Students may agree to add their names to a Òswap listÓ showing student names, day and lesson times. If you want to swap times with another student, you may do so.
Parents are always encouraged to attend lessons, especially for younger students, who may need supervision to practice at home. Parents do not need musical training to guide their children at the piano. Home assignments will be clearly explained at the lesson.
Playing piano requires skills that take time and practice to develop. Students should be prepared to set aside some time each day to practice piano. I do not require a certain number of minutes, but will give you an assignment each week, and expect you to do it.
You will be asked to find and purchase the music you need. I will give you the names of local music stores and several online services.
1 a tuned piano to practice on. If you do not own a piano, you may be able to get access to one in a church or school.
2 a 3-ring binder with lined paper, and music manuscript paper.
3 a hand-held cassette recorder or other portable recording device to tape pieces and passages during your lessons.
4 a bag to carry it all in
Piano lesson commitment is for a minimum of one semester.
If lessons are terminated before the end of the term, payment is still due for
the rest of the term.
