Medal Design Competition:
The winning medal design (shown on front page) was submitted by Matt Hutchison. It displays a coastal/border shape of the city of Fremont (actual city border extends into the SF bay), surrounded by a ring of names for each of the five contributing districts that made the city, namely Centerville, Niles, Mission San Jose, Irvington and Warm Springs. Each name is separated by a five-pointed star. Above the shape are the words "City of Fremont" and "est. January 23, 1956." Below the shape is "50 Years." In the outer circle, "Fremont Coin Club" is to the north, "35th Anniversary" to the south, "1971" to the west, and "2006" to the east.
Other designs depicted Hotel Wesley, which was the runner-up, the Sunderer Home and Hotel Irvington. Congratulations to Matt, and many thanks to him and the other design contributors: Bill Burke, Briita Ehlers, and Don Ehlers. Shown below are folks from the selection committee discussing how to handle the tie we had in the first round!
