Happenings at the Coronado State Monument Birding We would like to invite bird watchers to the Monument grounds situated on the middle Rio Grande Mesa directly above the river and the bosque. This location provides an ideal environment of water and forest along with dry land vegetation, pinon, cholla, yucca, four-wing saltbush, juniper, and rabbit bush. The area provides an important habitat for many species of breeding birds as well as migrants. There are paved paths to reach the vantage points, benches for sitting and ramadas for picnicking. The Monument Birding Program plans include having presentations, bird walks, and a brochure of sightings.
