February 28, 5005 - In case anyone wasn't aware, the men's team traveled through Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and finally arriving in Indiana to play in the Hoosier-Illini Classic Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. The van was full of fun, flatulence, and food (thanks to Brent's family). After 13.5 hours on the road, we crashed at the classiest hotel in Bloomington...the Scottish Inn. After suffering through roach legs, unknown hairs, and unmentionable magazines, we finally called 203 & 204 our homes away from home (Tom's bathroom case is still calling it home). Shortly after pizza, we called it a night, knowing of our long day ahead of us.

Saturday we were up, out, and on our way before we were barely awake. James and Chris had attended the captains meeting prior to us leaving and assured us that we all had our work cut out for us. We arrived at the gym to see our 39 challenging schools warming up and stretching out. We found our court and went to work. Our first match was against Pittsburg. Our normal slow start was no where to be found as shown by our early lead. But Pitt came back and took the game from under us along with the following game taking the match.

Disappointed but optimistic we geared up for our next opponent, 5th ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. We watched the very talented team warm up while chatting with our old friends from UCF who also attended the Tournament. The game began and we played our best while hanging with them. To our disappointment, they took the match in 2 games.

Staying as positive as possible, we finished out our day playing the University of Iowa and the University of Georgia losing both the matches placing us in the silver division for the playoffs. We went back to the beautiful Scottish Inn and talked about our day, strategy for Sunday, and then went to bed.

Sunday came before we knew it and we found ourselves checking out, eating breakfast, and walking into the gym before our eyes were barely open. Kentucky was our opposition and Silver champions was our goal. We quickly warmed up and the game started. Once again, defeat was upon us in the first game. But we weren't through yet! The second game came and we were not about to go home without a win. So we played our hearts out to our first victory of the tournament beating Kentucky 25-20. But this meant a 3rd game to 15. While playing our best, we lost and found ourselves out of the tournament. So we refereed our last game and hit the road back to old Tallahassee.

We made it back in one piece and went in search of our beds without unknown stains. This trip showed us our flaws, our strong points, and most importantly, what we can become if we keep it up. Till next time...
