Hello,

My name is Randy Hintz, and I typically go by the nickname "Fubster".

I play a turn-based war game called Empire Deluxe (aka EDIE, see http://www.killerbeesoftware.com/). The game is configurable in such a way that you can specify the background image that displays when you first start the game, and this must be BMP file. I have written a utility in Visual Basic that will cycle through or randomly pick images (in JPG format) from a specified folder, and set that image as the background picture for EDIE.

Converting the image from JPG to BMP is easy enough to do using a VB picture box, LoadPicture and SavePicture commands, however, the results are not as pretty as what I can get using IrfanView. I modified my program to allow the user to specify a command line that would convert the picture, and have it working successfully using IrfanView. The program also includes the option of using the VB method of converting the file.

I would like your permission to include the InfranView command line in the INI file that will be distributed with my program, as well as including links to your website from my website and in help/descriptions of my program. I do not wish to offer a download of IrfanView from my site, I will simply send anyone interested to your site.

My program is (and should always be) freeware.

Please let me know if I have your permission for this.

Thank You,

Randy Hintz (Fubster)

I would like your permission to include some modified images from your website on my website that other EDIE enthusiasts may use as background images. The modifications I would typically make would be to shrink the image, include some descriptive text about picture, and also to include your website address as part of the image. A sample modified image is attached to this message.

I would also like to include a link to your website from my website, so that users can easily navigate to the source of my images. Here is a link to my website: http://home.comcast.net/~fub.dll/. It currently promotes another utility that I have written for the same game, but does not yet mention the new program at all.

My program is (and should always be) freeware.

Please let me know if I have your permission for this.

Thank You,

Randy Hintz (Fubster)

Hello Randy, I have visited the site, and it seems a great game to play, if I had more time I would probably check it out my self!
You can use all the pics you want from our site, just name the source of the pics, that's all.

Your link to us is much appreciated, I would place a link to your site at once, but our policy is to put up links to aviation sites only.

Good luck with your program, and game!

Hello Randy,

Thank you for visiting my website, I hope you enjoyed the pictures found there.

In my header I explain that these are not my photos. Some may be copyrighted by others. They are free to view and display for non commercial use only. I do not know how 'Free Ware' would fit in that context. Only as an assumption, if you use any of these photos for your games. The worst that could transpire is that a percentage of your earnings from their use would be subject to be turned over to the copyright holder and a cease and desist order implemented. There are no 'Copyright Police'. Most of the photographers of original W.W.II photos have since died or don't play video games.

Good luck and much success in your programming ventures.

Aircraft-Index,

Jim Herd

Dear Randy,

Thank you for your note. Please help yourself to 10 images from our site, though we would prefer that any text not be used. We do appreciate the offer of a link, but that will not be necessary.

You can use the pictures. However, since I don't own most of the pictures, just present them, I prefer if you will not write my website URL on the pictures. Having a link to my website is good enough.
